Photo Art Direction

Art Direction seamlessly complements our design endeavors. We expertly coordinate and guide photography projects, ranging from intimate one-day table-top shoots to complex multi-location endeavors involving multiple photographers. Our proficiency extends to art directing various types of photography, including product, food, and lifestyle shots, and all possible combinations therein. Our aim is to skillfully address our clients’ marketing requirements through thoughtful organization and meticulous planning.

We focus primarily on:

  • building strong brand asset libraries
  • creating effective marketing imagery
  • supporting new products and services

Food Art Direction

We worked with Pampered Chef to create several cookbooks for them. That included several large photoshoots to capture their food creations. In order to meet their timelines, we had two sets working simultaneously, two photographer/assistant teams and two food stylist/assistant teams. A solid pre-production plan ensured we moved smoothly throughout the shoot schedule.

Location Art Direction

Working through Digitas Chicago, Eric teamed up with US Marine’s Creative Director and together managed the coordination and art direction of the largest multi-location boat shoot in US Marines history. It required planning for every shot to fill two 56 page catalogs, and included nearly ever boat model in their combined fleet. Shots included over 60 boat models, real boat people and both interior layouts and exterior shots in action. To pull this off, we created a massive shoot book with every shot highlighted and its position in the catalog documented. Even with this in-depth planning we needed to adapt on the fly and make adjustments.

3. Pre-Production Kickoff

The creative team (photographer, stylist, and art director) come together for a collaborative session. We walk through the shoot plan, refining details, addressing potential challenges, and setting clear expectations. This is where we ensure all pieces are in place for a smooth shoot day.

Key Actions:

  • Review and refine the shoot book
  • Address details like styling, locations, and props
  • Align on expectations, finalize resources, and confirm approvals

4. Production Prep

With pre-production finalized, we jump into action. This is when we gather props, finalize product deliveries, secure talent, and ensure all stylistic and technical elements are lined up. Everything is double-checked, so the shoot day will unfold seamlessly.

Key Actions:

  • Procure props & products
  • Finalize talent, stylists, and locations
  • Confirm logistics and adjust shoot book as needed

5. Production Day

On the shoot day, the Art Director and Photographer work in tandem to ensure every shot aligns with the vision. From lighting to set design to the perfect product placement, we ensure the aesthetic is top-notch, while staying on schedule. The collaborative effort ensures each shot is a work of art.

Key Actions:

  • Execute creative direction with attention to detail
  • Adjust lighting, styling, and set as needed
